English Academy Head of Studies
Challenge Acadèmia d'idiomes is a language academy based in Vilafranca del Penedès (Barcelona).
We teach mainly young learners and teenagers in our academy and we also run a number of additional English classes at public and private schools in the area.
We are looking for a dedicated Head of Studies (able to start the 1st of May, 2024 and committed to an indefinite contract) to teach and oversee the education in our English language academy. The ideal candidate will ensure excellence in teaching and maintain constant evaluation of the progress made in the classes. This full-time role requires a native-level English (C2) and advanced level of Spanish (minimum B2) with strong people skills and a commitment to high-quality education.
Some Job Responsibilities
- Assist with interviewing and hiring teachers, lead trainings and meetings, supervise classroom management and quality check.
- Student follow-up and meetings with students and parents
- Do level testing of new students.
- Supervise teacher-student tutorial procedure.
- Maintain periodic communication with administration to keep each other up to date.
- Evaluate and implement new ideas to improve the quality of the educational system used.
Knowledge/Skills
- First class interpersonal skills, with ability to manage in a motivational and fair way which encourages staff to maintain high levels of performance.
- Extended knowledge of Cambridge exams (from KEY to CPE).
- Working on projects (gamification methodology).
- Microsoft Office package.

Experience and Qualifications
- At least 4 years of experience in full-time classroom EFL teaching.
- At least 1 year of experience in a HoS role.
- College/University Bachelor’s degree or higher.
- DELTA certificate or Master’s in Education.
- NIE or TIE.
- B2-C1 level of Spanish.
- A clear criminal record check and sexual offences' clearance certificates.
- Preference given to candidates willing to live locally, in Vilafranca del Penedès or the Alt Penedès/Garraf areas.
Conditions/Benefits
- Full-time, indefinite contract (1500 annual hours). Approx. 18-20 hours contact teaching hours.
- Academic courses: mid-September to mid-June, intensive courses during July.
- Salary: 2035 euros/month gross.
- Initial training and mentoring.
- Paid vacation days are mainly in August and all national and municipal bank holidays plus Christmas and Easter breaks and local holidays.
